Mirko Vasiljevic was born on October 11, 1949 in Pravoševo, municipality of Prijepolje. He finished elementary school in his place of birth, in Mileševa and in Prijepolje, and grammar school in Nova Varoš as the best student of his generation. He enrolled in studies at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law in 1969 and graduated in June 1973 as an excellent student. He completed postgraduate studies in 1976 and doctoral studies in 1980 at the same faculty.

For two years after graduation he worked in the Legal department of the Automobile Factory in Priboj. In 1975 he was elected as assistant for the subject Commercial Law at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law. He was appointed as assistant professor for the same subject in 1980, associate professor in 1985 and professor in 1990. He was Vice-Dean of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law in the period 1985-1987. He established the subject Company Law at this Faculty. He was elected as Dean of University of Belgrade Faculty of Law in academic years 2004/2005 and 2005/2006, re-elected for the second mandate period 2006-2009 and achieved the second re-election for the third mandate period 2009-2012. He is the chief of Department for Civil Law at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law.

Using the scholarship of the French Government he spent academic year 1983/1984 at the Law Faculty Paris I – Sorbonne (Panthéon-Sorbonne), gaining specialization in the field of commercial companies, as part of commercial (business) law. On many occasions he was on one-month or two-month study stays in Paris, Bern, Poznan, Hamburg (Max Planck Institute) and London. He delivered lectures at postgraduate studies in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Podgorica, Maribor, Skoplje, Banja Luka and Hang Jou in China.

  3. He and his family received recognition from Episcope of Mileševa Filaret for benefaction in building of the residence of the monastery of Saint Kozma and Damjan at Vodena Poljana on mountain Zlatar (2010).

Extra-curricular activities and functions, professional activities, previous work experience:

1.       He is the founder of the Foundation “Professor Dr Mirko Vasiljević”, which aims at helping the best and socially the most handicapped students of University of Belgrade Faculty of Law at basic academic studies, as encouragement for the further continuation of academic education, above all in the field of commercial, company, bankruptcy, stock exchange and transport law.

2.       He is benefactor of the residence of the monastery of Saint Kozma and Damjan at Vodena Poljana on mountain Zlatar.

3.       He donated two bells for wooden church at Vodena Poljana.

4.       He has been significantly supporting and personally contributing to activities of the first humanitarian foundation “Smile as a gift” and the Foundation “Ancient Raška”.
